I myself learned of these procedures years ago when I was a maid in a hotel in Greenville Ohio, I personally don't ever use a glass in a hotel unless it is pastic because of my findings. Something else no one ever thinks about the blankets on the beds, they don't get changed after every hotel guest leaves.

I have often watched the housekeepers going from one room to the others, cleaning each room with the same cloth.... probably toliet and lavatory with same cloth.

I worked for years on cruise ships, assisting the cabin attendants. I was instructed to just rinse out the glasses, using the same towel the passenger had left behind to dry it. Never use a glass on a cruise ship cabin!!
